Pioneer Fashion: Annie Oakley

Buffalo Betty is such a ham, this post isn’t even about her!

Like the Calamity Jane, the Annie Oakley outfit in FrontierVille is based on a real person. Annie Oakley, born Phoebe Ann Mosey in 1860, was a renowned sharpshooter and a headliner in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. According to wikipedia, she was the first female American Superstar! Well whad’ya know. She also has her own movie, Annie Get Your Gun, which is based off of a Broadway Musical of the same name.

There’s No Business Like Show Business

Out of all the outfits available in the game, this one seems to be the most popular among my neighbors. I even dressed my daughter in it.

While I like the Annie Oakley look, I just find it a little too plain for my tastes. It’s fine for my child but not for my main character. I’d like to see more outfits in the game that look like this:

It’s kind of Cow-girly… in a way..

What? Too fancy?

Pioneer Fashion: Calamity Jane

In FrontierVille, when faced with a fashion crisis, there aren’t too many choices for a forward-thinking Pioneer Lady. You can either go femme or butch with very little in-between. Today we’re going to be looking at one of the staples of Pioneer Fashion: The Calamity Jane

One of my many Calamity Jane neighbors

TheĀ  outfit is inspired by the real life hero of American history & foklore, Calamity Jane. Calamity was a real woman, born Martha Jane Cannary Burke in 1852. She’s famous in her own right, having her own wikipedia page, her own movie, and countless biographies written about her.

The Real Calamity Jane

As a kid, I watched the movie all the time and got in trouble one day at Nursery School for singing the songs during nap time.

In FrontierVille, the Calamity Jane outfit is the only outfit that allows women to wear the pants on the Frontier. Either you’re a Calamity Jane or you’re a dress wearin’ Lady with delicate sensibilities. Even the Cowgirl Outfit comes with a mandatory (short) skirt.

Personally, I am a fan of the outfit, but I wish we had more options over-all. I’d like to see more outfits, including more dresses and more pant suits. Making your own clothing was a fundamental skill in Pioneer times, so hopefully one day the developers will include that option in the game.

But I’d really like to see more outfits like this:

Oh, before I forget:

Happy Independence Day Everyone!

I hope you enjoy your 4th of July weekend filled with fireworks, barbeque, and plenty of beer (or soda pop). Due to an injury I’ll be laid up all weekend, so don’t forget to have one for me.
